NEW YORK 30 November 2006 - David LaChapelle, one of the 'ten most important photographers now' (American Photo), is headed to Berlin at the end of November for 'Men, War & Peace,' his first German exhibition at the Helmut Newton Foundation and an opening at Jablonka Galerie, one of Europe's most respected art dealers.'Men, War & Peace' includes Helmut Newton's portraits of men, James Nachtwey's images of people during war, and LaChapelle's images of people during peace. How interesting that an American artist would be included in a show about war, one of the most important issues of our time, in Berlin the former war capital and now a cultural center.It's a good time to review LaChapelle's work because his photos of pop icons have become iconic in and of themselves, he has just completed 'Heaven To Hell,' the third book in his trilogy, and is turning his focus from commercial work to photography that follows his own muse and is created for museum exhibition. »
